Mental Wellness & Breaking the Stigma in Our Communities

Therapy, prayer, community — where do they meet? Let's normalize caring for the mind.

In many of our households, mental health struggles were met with 'pray about it,' 'toughen up,' or silence. Prayer is powerful — and so is a trained ear, a support circle, and rest. There is no shame in caring for the mind the way we care for the body. Let us break the stigma together. Share what has helped you: a therapist who understood your culture, a men's or women's circle, journaling, time in nature, community. What do you wish our people understood about mental wellness?

Therapist here. Prayer and therapy are not rivals — I've had clients whose faith was their greatest resource. What helped most of my clients: finding a provider who shares their cultural context so they don't have to translate their whole life first.

A men's circle saved me. Eight brothers, once a week, no fixing, just witnessing. I wish our people understood that isolation is the real killer, not the struggle itself.
